About Linguvias

Linguvias is an Italian language hub built on a single conviction: that the right resource, in the right place, at the right moment in your journey makes all the difference.

Italian is one of the world's most learnable languages for English speakers โ€” it has consistent pronunciation rules, a logical grammatical structure that rewards patience, and an enormous amount of shared vocabulary with English from their shared Latin roots. And yet most Italian learning resources either aim too broadly (generic language-learning apps that could teach anything) or too narrowly (exam prep that forgets you might also want to order dinner in Rome). Linguvias is built to sit in between: deep, specific, and genuinely useful across the real situations that bring people to Italian.

Four Routes, One Destination

The site is organised around four routes through Italian, each representing a distinct reason someone might be learning:

Learn Italian โ€” for people building a lasting competency in the language, from absolute beginners through to intermediate and advanced learners. Grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, conversation and structured lesson plans, all organised around how language acquisition actually works rather than how it's typically taught in schools.

Travel Italian โ€” for people preparing for time in Italy. Practical, situation-specific language for airports, hotels, restaurants and emergencies. Built for maximum utility with minimum study time, because most people preparing for a holiday have days, not months.

Italian Exams โ€” for people working toward a formal certification. The four major certifications (CILS, CELI, PLIDA, CERT.IT) compared honestly, with the differences that actually matter explained clearly.

Study & Work โ€” for people planning a longer stay in Italy. Universities, visas, workplace culture and job applications โ€” the things that matter once you're past the tourist stage and thinking about building a life.

What Makes Linguvias Different

A few things we do that most Italian sites don't:

We tell you what we don't know. Visa rules change. Exam structures get updated. Quota figures shift every year. Where the information on this site has a shelf life, we say so explicitly and point you to the authoritative primary source, rather than presenting potentially stale information as settled fact.

We're built for both English and Italian speakers. Every content hub on Linguvias has a full Italian-language counterpart โ€” not machine-translated, but written as Italian-language content โ€” with proper hreflang SEO so Italian speakers searching in Italian can find us. This is unusual among Italian learning sites, most of which are English-only resources about Italian.

We don't rely on third-party translation APIs. The Italian content on this site is written by hand, not generated by translation software on the fly. This keeps it accurate, consistent with the site's voice, and free from the subtle errors that machine translation still produces in natural-sounding Italian prose.

We actually like Italian. The writing across this site reflects genuine enthusiasm for the language, its culture, and the real experience of learning it โ€” not content written by committee to rank for keywords.

The Tools

Beyond the written content, Linguvias offers a handful of tools built specifically for Italian learners:

The Italian Dictionary is a curated reference with example sentences in Italian and English, grammatical gender, difficulty level by CEFR standard and a speak button to hear the correct pronunciation.

The Flashcard decks let you study Italian vocabulary with a simple flip-card interface and track your progress per deck โ€” with "known" defined as your most recent attempt being correct, not just having ever got it right once.

The Quiz mode tests the same vocabulary in a timed multiple-choice format, for a different kind of practice that rewards recall rather than recognition.

The Shop offers downloadable PDF guides generated from the site's own content โ€” a clean, printable version of the grammar reference, travel phrasebook, and more.

A Note on Privacy and Tracking

Linguvias uses self-hosted, privacy-respecting analytics โ€” we track page views by path and timestamp, with no per-visitor identifier stored, no tracking cookies, and no data shared with third parties. There is no advertising on this site. See the Privacy Policy for full details.
